Reinforced shoulders and a stiff tread face help resist the squirm and deformation that result from the inertia and G-forces of hard cornering. The internal construction of the Eagle Exhilarate is designed to be durable and stable at high speeds, with a polyester casing, and lightweight, high-tensile steel belts. Road manners and ride comfort come from two layers of polyamide reinforcement plies. SimpleTire calculated a SimpleScore of 8.6 for longevity, and Goodyear covers the Eagle Exhilarate with a 45,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. That’s a real distinct plus by itself when you bear in mind that most UHP and summer tires don’t even offer a mileage warranty at all.

2. Bridgestone Potenza RE050A - Best Summer tire

Any driver of a Porsche Carrera GT is going to want to get the most out of its performance envelope, and the race-inspired Bridgestone Potenza RE050A is an excellent choice. Do remember that the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A is a summer tire and its softer, stickier tread formulation will harden and lose traction on colder days. Like all summer tires, the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A should not be used if temperatures are below 45 degrees F.

3. Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus - Best UHP All-Season tire

When Continental designed the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus, they wanted a tire that wouldn’t require any compromise in performance vs traction, ride quality, and noise levels – a tire that can offer the overall handling, cornering, braking, and steering response you’d expect from a UHP tire with dependable year-round grip. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus is an even stronger candidate when you remember that most UHP and summer use a softer, stickier tread formulation that will stiffen up and lose traction on colder days, which is when they have to be swapped for all-season tires. Continental built on the proven design of the ExtremeContact DWS06 and updated it in just about every aspect, starting with the Sport+ Tech package that delivers confident cornering ability and responsiveness. Reinforced 2-ply sidewalls and macroblocks in the tread give a driver handling that’s direct and immediate without ever being touchy or jumpy, for an outstanding SimpleScore of 9.9 in that category. For year-round grip, there’s an advanced silica-enriched tread compound for great wet-weather traction and long wear. In rainy conditions or light snow, a system of circumferential grooves, sweeping lateral grooves, and X-sipes give the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus an advantage in grip for a traction score of 9.8. Continental stands by the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus with a 60,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty (unlike most UHP tires), for a SimpleScore of 9.2 in the longevity department.

The team gave this tier a SimpleScore of 8.8 for traction, and wet and dry-weather grip are enhanced with circumferential grooves and angled grooves. Longevity is admirable too, with a SimpleScore of 7.8 – the Azenis FK510 features an advanced tread compound and undertread construction with a 4D Nano design.
