Acura Zdx Tires
The Acura ZDX, introduced in model year 2009, is a stylish midsize luxury crossover that shares some commonalities with the Honda Pilot. The ZDX was powered by a 3.7L V6 mated to Honda’s first-ever 6-speed automatic. With its sloping roofline, the body style of the ZDX wasn’t for everyone but it was well-equipped with navigation, a full driver assistance package that included blind spot alert, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and a multi-mode adaptive suspension with magnetorheological shock absorbers. With 300 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, the ZDX was a strong performer too, especially with the optional AWD drivetrain. It was never a strong seller, though – in its 4-year run it only sold under 8000 units in North America, making it one of the more rare birds from Acura. The ZDX was rated at 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway/19 mpg average.
Based on SimpleScore, here are the best Acura ZDX tires on the market.
1. Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra - Best All-Season tire
We’re going to kick off this list with the Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra, a highly versatile all-season tire that’s long been a favorite for its year-round traction on dry, wet, or snowy roads. It’s a very competent tire that’s remarkable for its low highway noise and compliant ride quality, the kind you’d expect with a Grand Touring tire, as well as delivering the value and long wear you need. The Alenza A/S Ultra is a fairly new addition to Bridgestone’s proven Alenza tire family, and Bridgestone approached its design with the goals of long, even tread wear, and precise handling. The Alenza A/S Ultra starts with an advanced silica-based tread compound that features dependable grip in wet or wintry conditions, great wear properties as well as good heat dispersal, and low noise generation. When the pavement’s slick with rain, the Alenza A/S Ultra’s asymmetric all-season tread pattern channels water away with wide circumferential and angled grooves that mitigate a tendency toward hydroplaning. If the snow starts piling up, there’s Bridgestone’s Snow Vices, grooves that are designed to build snow-on-snow friction and safe, reliable traction by actually picking up and retaining snow to develop snow-to-snow friction. A dense pattern of sipes multiplies traction through snow and slush by adding hundreds of extra biting edges. You’ll love the cathedral-quiet ride of the Alenza A/S Ultra; Bridgestone’s Quiet Track technology package reduces pattern noise and negates certain frequencies for a ride that’s peaceful and serene. Internal details of the Alenza A/S Ultra include a polyester casing held together with two steel belts and a spiral-wound nylon cap layer, delivering the long wear, durability, and reassuring, dead-solid road feel you’re looking for. Bridgestone is confident enough to cover the Alenza A/S Ultra with an 80,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Our numbers show that the Alenza A/S Ultra registers an overall average SimpleScore of 9.6, with marks of 9.55 for handling, 9.7 for longevity, and 9.7 for traction. Long, even wear, confident grip in a variety of weather conditions, and handling that’s accurate and focused – that's what the Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra is all about.
2. Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus - Best All-Season UHP tire
Next up is a tire that makes a great showing in the UHP performance game along with the year-round traction that you depend on – the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS. The ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS gives you the non-nonsense versatility of an all-season tire with safe, confident traction in wet, dry, or light wintry weather. That comes, of course, with the kind of road manners, cornering, braking, steering response, and overall handling that are more on the level of a UHP tire. That counts for a lot when you remember that UHP and summer tires have to be dismounted and exchanged for all-season tires in colder weather as the softer tread compound hardens in the cold and gives up its traction. The ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS expands on the proven success of the popular ExtremeContact DWS06 in just about every aspect, with cornering ability, braking, and steering response that are all enhanced by the tire’s reinforced 2-ply sidewalls and macroblocks in the tread. After reviewing and taking all the data points into account, the SimpleTire team gives the ExtremeContact DWS05 PLUS a very capable SimpleScore of 9.9 for handling. Long life and great wet-weather traction are also real benefits for the DWS06 PLUS, thanks to its silica-rich tread compound, sweeping lateral grooves, circumferential grooves, and X-sipes for rainy roads or light wintry conditions. SimpleScore for traction: 9.8. With a 9.2 SimpleScore, longevity is quite good too; the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus is covered by a 60,000 mile warranty.
3. Pirelli Scorpion Winter - Best Winter tire
When the snow flies and starts piling up on the roads, we’re going with the Pirelli Scorpion Winter. Pirelli designed this purpose-built winter tire with a low-temperature tread compound that’s designed to stay flexible for traction in subfreezing weather. That rubber compound is molded into an aggressive directional tread pattern that works as a system for confident grip and control in snow and slush, with dense 3D sipes, chamfered groove edges, and V-shaped grooves for confident grip and control in snow and slush for a traction score of 9.8. That system of tread elements also is designed for cornering, braking performance, feedback, and steering response that are more at the level you’d expect from a performance tire for a handling score of 9.8. The Scorpion Winter does fall somewhat in SimpleScore rankings when it comes to durability – dedicated winter tires and their softer, more pliable low-temperature tread compound will wear prematurely on warmer days when temperatures are above 40-45 degrees F. That being said, the Scorpion Winter 2 still sports a great longevity score of 8.0.
While these are the best Acura ZDX tires on the market, there are plenty of other options to consider:
4. Firestone Destination LE3 - Great All-Season tire
The Firestone Destination LE3 is an all-season tire that gets consistently high ratings all around and for good reason. Its damage-resistant rubber compound and internal design make it extremely durable, with a 70,000 mile warranty, which is enough for a SimpleScore of 9.5 in longevity. Year-round grip is consistent and confident, with a combination of 3D full-depth sipes, open shoulder slots, and circumferential grooves. Firestone’s TractionTech package is designed to work together as a system, for a SimpleScore of 8.6 for traction. The Destination LE3’s stability, roadability, steering response, driver feedback, and road feel are all robust, with a SimpleScore of 8.3 for handling.
5. Kumho Crugen HP71 - Good All-Season tire
Let’s close out and wrap up our list with an all-season tire that’s been making a great impression on us, the Kumho Crugen HP71. We’ve thought for some time now that Kumho products in general are premium quality and performance, and the Crugen HP71 comes in with a very respectable SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity. The advanced tread compound of the Crugen HP71 is enough for Kumho to back this tire with a 65,000 mile warranty. Steering feedback, response, road manners, and cornering are more along the lines of a performance tire, with a rigid center rib and shoulder blocks that resist tread squirm and deformation that come with the forces of braking and cornering for a handling score of 8.6. We give the Crugen HP71 a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction with its circumferential grooves, micro-serrations, lateral voids, and full-depth sipes that help deliver dependable grip on a variety of pavement surfaces in wet, dry, or wintry conditions. The Kumho Crugen HP71 is also quiet and refined thanks to a tread pitch that’s randomized and computer-tuned to reduce resonances and cancel certain frequencies, keeping highway noise to a minimum.
