The Sumitomo Ice Edge is a studdable winter tire that is designed to deliver excellent performance on ice, snow, and slush-covered roads because of its outstanding cold-weather grip. Here are some noteworthy features and benefits of the Sumitomo Ice Edge tire that you should know.
- Enhanced snow grip: The wide and serrated tread channels enhance the speed of evacuation of slush and ice for enhanced snow grip.
- Optimized winter performance: The optimized 3D serrated siping pattern helps maximize tread bite on winter road surfaces.
- Increased stability and handling: The triangular center tread blocks increased tread contact footprint for improved stability and handling.
- Studdable for enhanced performance: The tires can be studded with TSMI #12 or #13 studs, where permitted, for increased winter traction and grip.

SimpleTire’s view on Sumitomo Ice Edge tires
If you are looking for a set of winter tires that can perform well in heavy winter conditions and are budget-friendly, Sumitomo Ice Edge might be a good choice for you. These tires can be studded, where permitted, for increased traction and are Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified to ensure optimal performance in winter weather conditions.
Also, consider the GT Radial IcePro 3, if you want better durability (8.2 vs 7.8) and better longevity (8.5 v 8.2). However, the Sumitomo tire does offer better traction (7.9 v 7.5) and the tires are studdable, unlike the IcePro 3 which is pre-studded.

Include the winter tire studs with tires for fee
Aggressive tread. Did not install stud but tires handled well on ice and snow covered roads in Adirondacks. Road noise really not much louder than radials. Happy with purchase.
So far, so good. I thought they would be noisy given the aggressive tread, but noise level is only slightly more than the all season tires they replaced. Pretty good in snow/muddy conditions. Nothing is good on ice in my opinion, but these could handle it better if studded. I've only been running them a little over a month, too early for a tread wear assessment.
Bought these towards the end of winter season 2020 for my 2016 Ford Fiesta. Took off in the spring, so never really had a chance to see what they'd do last winter. THIS winter these tires have more than proven themselves. We just got an ice storm yesterday 2/3/22 here along the NY/PA border where I live(referred to as the southern tier by locals). These tires were absolutely astounding on the ice. I wish they'd let ya post pictures, my driveway was a sheet of ice, never spun a tire getting up it.
You will be glad you bought these I purchased these tires after reading the reviews, and they are excellent. I have an hour long commute to Vermont, and my Jetta handles snowy roads perfectly, (even heavy wet snow) with these tires. The treads are rugged and my husband noticed how much better these tires perform, compared to the Bridgestone Blizzak on his Jetta. The tires handle well on dry roads, and they're very quiet. (My old snow tires were so loud that I threw them away when I had my summer tires put on.)
Great tires little road noise but great traction and super fast shipping
Bought these tires and put them on my wife 2016 Subaru Forester and she loves them
Excellent economical good performing winter tire. Severe northeast driving with snow, slush, ice (and mud) so we run with studs on my Mini Cooper.
