  • Amp Terrain Attack A/T A

There are a lot of pickup trucks and SUVs on the road these days (as if you haven’t noticed), and many, many of them are equipped with four wheel drive. There are plenty of choices for all-terrain tires for 4WD trucks, at every price point – and usually these are a “you get what you pay for” proposition. Those tires are likely to come with some pretty serious tradeoffs in terms of noise level, road manners, ride quality, handling, and overall road manners on the pavement…or tires that do well on pavement are going to offer pretty mediocre performance once they’re off-road.

The AMP Terrain Attack A/T A is designed for off-road attitude and performance along with civilized behavior on the street, the kind of roadability, handling, ride, and low noise that won’t wear you out and give you headaches in day-to-day driving. It’s also packed with features and innovations that you’d expect to see in all-terrain tires that cost a lot more. Durability, traction, handling, good braking, and cornering performance – what more can you hope for in an all-terrain tire?

So what is it about the tire that makes it such a standout? Let’s go in for a closer look with this Amp Terrain Attack A/T A review:

    Features and Benefits

There’s a lot to like when it comes to the AMP Terrain Attack A/T A:

    • Unique multi-block tread design with stepped edges, ensuring good off-road traction and handling along with smooth ride comfort on the highway
    • Wraparound lugs at sidewall with two distinctly different designs for excellent lateral traction in mud, snow, sand, gravel, loose dirt
    • Deep 15.5/32” tread depth for long wear, great traction, and good cleanout of mud, snow, and debris
    • Advanced rubber formulation resists cuts, punctures, scuffs, chips, and bruises
    • Backed by a 40,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty
    • Tread pitch is randomized and computer tuned to cancel frequencies and keep road noise to a minimum
    • Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rated for severe winter service
    • Can be used aired-down for rock crawling

    Pros and Cons

So, is this Amp tire the right choice for your ride and budget? Before you decide, let’s take a look at the tire’s pros and cons:

    PROS

    • Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified for great performance in deep snow, slush, ice
    • Generous tread life warranty
    • Solid off-road performance with great behavior on the street
    • More affordable than many competitor’s tires

    CONS

    • Not good in deeper mud
    • Road noise can be a bit high at times
    • Fuel efficiency could be better

SimpleTire’s view on Amp Terrain Attack A/T A tires

    Amp Terrain Attack A/T A

When it comes to the AMP Terrain Attack A/T A, you can see the results above – there’s more Pros than Cons with this tire. It doesn’t lose its composure or get jittery and squirrelly on irregular pavement, and steering response, braking performance, cornering, and straight-line stability are all exemplary. On the other hand, this is a tire that isn’t easy to defeat when it’s time to go off the pavement. The Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating is a pretty big deal just by itself since many all-terrain tires don’t really meet expectations when it comes to winter traction. The wraparound lug design at the shoulder is crucial for the lateral traction you need to claw your way out of a rut, and the staggered lug pattern is innovative and tenacious in mud, sand, snow, slush, gravel or loose dirt. Reviews show that many drivers have also been able to take the AMP Terrain Attack A/T A far past the 40,000 mile warranty phase before replacing them.

All in all, this is a great, versatile all-around adventure tire for a variety of light trucks, SUVs, and Jeeps. It’s a tire that excels in both off-road run and everyday driving, even on long interstate road trips with the family in tow. In a category that’s crowded with choices, the AMP Terrain Attack A/T A is a tire that can punch far above its weight class and exceeds expectations consistently.

I'm now on my third set of these. Each set has lasted 50-60k. I do a lot of highway driving at speeds of 70-80. They are quiet every time I've put a set on. My problem is I don't ever rotate them. If they start to cup or become uneven you will get lots of road noise. If I rotated them I'm sure they would still be quiet and give me more life. Overall for the price, using them on the highway like I do I feel overall they are worth the money

It almost killed me not going with my go to bf gs..but I had been basically forced into getting these by a friend of mine who has a tire shop and gave me a deal I couldn't pass up..Im beyond happy with them..I work my truck all day everyday..road driving..mud..rain..snow..snow plowing..ive had other tires like these that weren't great in snow but these are phenomenal..ive gotten myself in some tough situations and been able to get out every time with them..im not sure how many miles you should get bit I know driving in 4 wheel constantly affects tires and I have to say these things wear like steel..spectacular tires and I'm glad I own them

I've owned many tires from BFG, Coopers, General grabbers. These have the best performance in the rain. The sounds is none existent. Only put about 1000 miles on them or so. I do mostly highway driving. Still looks aggressive. If I can get 40,000 miles out of them or close to Will buy again

Couple thousand miles on tires so far and I love them. They are above average in every aspect for all terrain tires I've owned. The low price is what sets them ahead of the others. Great tire I would happily recommend.

They ride great and much quieter than my old Mickey's. They are hard to spin balance accurately but the bead balance used for tractor trailer tires work perfect.

Recently had the Amp Terrain Attack put on a 2013 Wrangler JKU. Here are my impressions thus far: These are A LOT quieter than the Kumho M/T's they replaced! I mean A LOT! My family and I often take a 2 and half hour drive to the lake for the weekend. The Kumhos were so loud that we couldn't hear our son in the back seat and your head would be vibrating by the end of the trip. The Amp Terrain Attacks still have a little road noise, but it's much better. Where the radio used to be on 20 to hear it, now it's just as audible at 10. The Amps are very close to being true to size when mounted. They're spec'd at 34.4 inches tall. Mine measure 34 inches on a 9 inch wide rim. My old "35" inch Kumhos measured 33.25. The Amps have a ton of sipes, which contribute greatly to the ability to shed away water. Driven a few heavy rain storms and had plenty of traction. It took awhile to find the perfect tire pressure for my JKU, since it's much lighter than the vehicles these load range E tires are designed for, but 32 psi seems to be the sweet spot. Since these are a range E, don't expect your Jeep to ride like a Lexus, it just isn't gonna happen. Range E is a stiffer tire, which is great for airing down off road, but doesn't help ride quality on road. That being said, these do ride more comfortably than the Kumhos that were on it. All in all, dollar for dollar, the Amp Terrain Attack is hard to beat. Add in the 40000 mile warranty from Amp and you've got a winner.

So far so good. Only a few thousand miles, but I really like the AMP's so far. Not as noisy as I thought they would be. Actually fairly quiet. Ride great. Took very little weight to balance. Less weight, like half, than the BFG's they replaced. Look great also.
